Decades of Unrelenting Advocacy

For more than two decades, Marcus A. Sterling has stood in courtrooms across the country as a relentless advocate for those who need it most. His journey from the hardscrabble neighborhoods of South Brooklyn to the highest-stakes courtrooms in the nation is a testament to the power of preparation, principle, and an iron will.

After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, Marcus joined the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where he prosecuted complex federal crimes including financial fraud, organized crime, and public corruption. That experience gave him an unparalleled window into how the government builds its cases — knowledge he now turns against them on behalf of his clients.

"I've sat on both sides of the courtroom. That perspective is worth more than any textbook — it tells me exactly how the other side thinks, and how to beat them."
— Marcus A. Sterling

In 1998, Marcus founded Sterling Law Firm with a single conviction: that exceptional legal representation should not be reserved for the privileged few. The firm has since grown to a team of twelve attorneys handling cases from New York to California, with a track record that speaks for itself — over $150 million recovered for clients and a 98% success rate in contested matters.

When Marcus is not in court, he teaches trial advocacy at Columbia Law School, serves on the board of the Innocence Project, and mentors first-generation law students through the Sterling Scholarship Fund, which he established in 2008.
